Our society is changing, as can be seen
in news reports every day. Housing shortages, water shortages, climate change, biodiversity, energy supplies, renewable energy, and the switch to electric cars from 2030 are all issues that our society is facing today. Our towns,
cities and countryside have to adapt to the change, and you could be part of building the world we want to live in.
Infrastructure is the backbone of our economy and how we live, it encompasses power, water, telecoms, trains, roads, housing and even town centres delivering the services and facilities we need to live, work, and play in the 21st century.
Operating in both rural and urban environments, our fast-growing Infrastructure teams are directly involved in delivering the world we need for the 21st Century and beyond.

Throughout 2018-19, agreement was achieved for the following Vision statement for the Commercial division, working toward 2025:
“To grow the division into a team that provides a truly national, robust,
co-ordinated and personal service that works to enhance the built environment for our clients through continued investment in our people and regional diversification.”
This Plan has been written in recognition of the work that has been undertaken throughout the previous plan period to build the Commercial division to a £21 million division, equating to over one quarter of the business, both in terms of turnover and headcount.
To continue to build upon this, it is recognised that focus needs to be applied to our resources and regional and service structure. Infrastructure in support of the divisional activity will also be essential in a time of great change in relation to automation and technological enhancements.
This Plan has been created through consultation with members of the division, with input added from across the current regional offices and national service teams, together with Business Services heads. This has been undertaken to ensure that we understand our Partners’ and staff’s aspirations lie for the Plan period more widely than on the financial basis on which the previous Plan was focused.
Each team has an individual charged with developing their business plan over the Vision 2025 period. In conjunction with the Divisional Board, they are responsible for setting the annual budget, the business plan and implementing it.
Our vision for sustainability is to adopt business strategies and activities that meet the needs of Carter Jonas while protecting, sustaining, and enhancing human and natural resources now and for future generations. Since 1855 our people have worked with the natural environment to create more sustainable outcomes for the property and landowners that we have served and within the communities that we work. There are three key elements through which we manage our commitments to sustainability:
Our sustainable business

Our people
I joined Carter Jonas Infrastructures in December 2016 as a Contract Coordinator with 15 years’ administrative experience within the infrastructure sector. During my interview I explained that I had interest in surveying following completion of my Construction Management degree.
Since joining, the firm has supported me to undertake a Masters in Real Estate and Property Management, and subsequently they gave me an opportunity to transfer my skills into a new role.
I am now an Associate based in Birmingham, supporting asset managers who report to me, providing clients with advice based on my assessment of their portfolio, and making recommendations for acquisition and development potential. In addition, I undertake the management of complex cases involving residential properties heavily impacted by HS2 construction activity.

Since starting at Carter Jonas, I’ve been lucky to work as part of an ambitious and successful Infrastructures team. From joining initially as the Team Administrator in 2018, I have been given the support, guidance and opportunity to progress into a fee-earning role. This has allowed me to develop my skills and expand my knowledge, all with the help and support of my manager. It was great that Carter Jonas was willing to let me transition in this way and it is clear that training and development is a big part of the
firm’s ethos.
The Infrastructures team is made up of like-minded and driven people, are all looking to achieve collective as well as individual goals. There is a real sense of being valued as a key member of the team and that anyone, regardless of position, can speak up and have their opinions considered. I have found that the team is keen to allow individuals to focus on areas of work which they have a particular passion or interest in, and that there is a concerted effort to retain good staff.

I joined Carter Jonas in September 2020, as a surveyor in the infrastructures team, predominantly on the HS2 contract having achieved MRICS and FAAV status in Autumn 2019.
As a newly qualified surveyor, I found the team very friendly and supportive. I enjoyed assisting more experienced members of the team with complex cases, while also building my professional independence taking on responsibilities for management of my own cases and workload.
Now, in 2023, I have been promoted to an Associate Surveyor within the infrastructure team. I have been encouraged to develop my technical knowledge and as a professional within the firm. I have also received encouragement to expand particular areas of interest within the profession. I am currently working to attain a BIAC qualifications, as well as becoming an APC assessor.
The workload is diverse and challenging and I enjoy the fast pace within the infrastructure team. Currently I am involved with a number of complex compulsory purchase cases to include rural business losses claims and injurious affection, as well as dealing with wider rural valuations and crop loss assessments. My favourite part of the job is getting out on site.
